The Blackwater Valley is an ancient landscape. Through stone-age tombs, grassy winding roads, graveyards and battered castles it tells stories of magic and myth, pagan cults and the coming of Christianity, of war and crusader knights, of good times, industry and of famine. It is a working landscape and has been so for millennia. Weirs, millraces, stables and old working woodlands bear witness to many thousands of years of interaction between nature and human activity.
